London 2012: Olympic Flame Lits up
The Olympics are as much about
tradition and legacy as they are sporting events, with none so vivid as the
lighting of the torch which will now wind its way from Olympia to the Games in
London.
Today marked the lightening of the Olympic torch, held in the
ruins of the 2,600-year-old Temple of Hera. It saw actors in ancient Greek costume
use a mirror to harness the sun's rays and light the Olympic torch.
Here are the pictures gotten from CNN
![]() |
| Amid the tumbledown columns and olive groves of the ancient stadium in Olympia, the high priestess holds the torch high at the lighting ceremony. |
![]() |
| The priestess, played by Greek actress Ino Menegaki, lifts the "Archaic Pot" from which the flame is lit. |
![]() |
| The Liverpool-born swimmer handed the torch to 19-year-old British boxer Alexander Loukos |
![]() |
| Loukos grew up in east London, where the Olympic Stadium is situated, but his father hails from Greece. Making its way to Britain, the flame will first take in Greek archaeological sites including the Acropolis and Olympic Stadium in Athens, site of the first modern Games in 1896. |
Arriving on May 19 at Land's End
in the far southwest of England, it will wind its way through 1,019
communities, carried by 8,000 torch-bearers ~Wish I was one of the torch bearers :)~
The final leg will run from
Hampton Court Palace, the former home of King Henry VIII, before arriving at the
opening ceremony on July 27.
The flame will burn until the
Games end on August 12 -- a tradition that was revived at the 1936 Berlin
Olympics.
Don't you just love the Olympics??? What game are you looking forward to see???
Chat later...

FIFA Rank for May
Earlier today, the World's football body released their rank for the month.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles lost grounds against their fellow African nations as they dropped three places from their position in the last rankings released for the month of April, bagging 63rd position in the world and 12th in Africa.
Ivory Coast, Algeria, Ghana, Mali, Zambia, Gabon and Libya maintained their positions in Africa while South Africa moved up four places to 14th in Africa and 67th in the world to bag the most improved African team for the month of May.
Cameroon tightly-gripped their previous position as they remained 64th and 13th in world and Africa respectively.
African champions Zambia emerged the 40th best country in the world while scooping 5th position in Africa.
Spain, Germany, Uruguay, Netherlands, Portugal, Brazil, England and Croatia maintained the top eight positions.

I'm loving Spain and Zambia right now...

RASHIDI YEKINI
*SOBS*
Our Nigerian football hero has died. Rashidi Yekini.
The gangling striker has the enviable record of scoring
Nigeria's first goal during the country's maiden appearance at
the World Cup in 1994 in the United States of America.

~CUP OF JOY et L'OSCAR~
So, I had an awesome weekend ~Uhmm, OK, maybe not so awesome 'cos of the Saturday night head ache, which was TERRIBLE and the bombing in JOS yesterday :( ~
I went for my first ever book reading organised by farafina books at Life House, Ikoyi (The place is so AFRICAN and had the best ankara gowns for sale) on Friday. Learnt a lot, met lots of cool people (even though I didn't talk to anyone ~shy moi~), and Boy, the critics were too harsh!!! (my opinion). Going home was scary but thank God, I got home safely...It was a nice experience...Check out farafina on...http://farafinabooks.wordpress.com/
Saturday was shopping day (the headache started after that) and I enjoyed arguing with my sister over what to buy (Hahahaha). Sunday was Carling cup final
...and My 'sometimes' favourite team in the world won the cup...Yayyy, Me 'Liverpool'...
I can imagine how they felt winning that cup after what some people called their '6 years of drought'.
Well, I guess they dreamt of paradise and it came true...So happy for them.

Hearts out to the artist, the help, rango (my all time fave cartoon), Hugo and Meryl streep (the Iron lady) for their big oscar win...Check http://oscar.go.com/nominees for more on the oscars...
Wishing you lots of joy and remember, dreams do come true...
Enjoy this lovely song from coldplay...
And have yourself a great day (oops!!! I just destroyed the window blind in my office)...
